Discuss issue-related resolutions for Party Platform
Elect precinct committee members
One of the important aspects of the caucus process is to propose issue-related resolutions to become part of your party platform. If you are tired of the fact that we are a nation dependent on foreign oil, and believe like many Iowans that we are smart enough and great enough to do something about it, then take the following resolution to your local caucus in any of Iowa's 99 counties:
|
We propose that the following ENERGY resolution
be made part of the Iowa Democratic Party Platform. WHEREAS, The foreign policy of this
nation is designed and implemented on our consumption of foreign
oil; the United States has less than 3% of the
world’s oil reserves, but accounts for more than 25% of global demand. WHEREAS, the United States consumed 96.95 quadrillion Btu’s of energy in 2001, almost three times as much as the runner up (China with 36.67 quadrillion Btu’s), and continues to encourage wasteful and conventional energy-consuming technology. Our energy-use policies are directed by corporate interests within our government, convenience, luxury, and public ignorance. WHEREAS, we the people of Iowa believe the United States can no longer succeed as a nation while dependent on foreign oil. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Democratic Party of Iowa calls on each of its presidential candidates, and the eventual Democratic Party nominee to create and support a strong national plan to greatly expand development of alternative and renewable energy technologies, to declare independence of foreign oil, to conserve traditional domestic energy resources, to save the family farm through bio-energy related crops, to generate jobs for Americans and raise the quality of life through environmentally friendly technologies.
