THE LITTLE CREEK CHURCH I KNEW

I
In the paper a picture of the Little Creek Church
As it was being torn down and lumber sold
Thoughts drifted back to years long ago
The reporting of its history as it was told.

II
It mentioned only a few member's name
I recalled the names of the families I knew
Corridan, O'Rourke(s), Barrett(s), Fahey and Hanley(s)
McGurk, McKenna(s), Walsh, and Smith and Kiernan too.

III
Bigley, McMahon, McKenna, and Monaghan(s),
Lytle, Rock, Murphy, O'Brien, Feldevert (Feldevard Rock's descendants who went to the North English Catholic Chruch with me when I was a kid), and Hayes,
Divine (Devine), Fischer(s), Kelly(s), and Dunn(s),
Stapelton(s), LaVelle(s), Reilleys, Hudson, and Gray(s).

IV
Dancing, Skating, Sled and Sleigh rides,
Furnished us youngsters many hours of pleasure.
And the merry jingles of sleigh bells
Made music to remember and treasure.

V
March the seventeenth was the ending of Lent,
Recalling one year the Ancient Order of Hibernians gave a ball.
Its members decked out in collars of green
As we danced the Grand March around the hall.

VI
On August fifteenth was the annual picnic,
We met in McCann's grove dressed in our best;
Platform dance, speeches and a luscious dinner,
Served by ladies outclassed all the rest.

VII
Happy school days and carefree youth
All too soon went drifting by.
Gone and scattered this jolly crowd
Many in this old churchyard lie.

VIII
In my book of memories now tattered and worn
There's laughter and tears on page after page.
Tired and weary as for the doors of life close
I am getting old for eighty seven my age.
