Wassonville Bridge Photographs

A collection of photographs from the history of Wassonville, Iowa

At the time Wassonville was settled in the 1840s, travelers had to ford the English River in order to cross to the other side.  In the early days, a ferry was built, probably some sort of large raft.  During the annual floods, the ferry often sunk.  A steel bridge was then built to help with the traffic on the Iowa City - Oskaloosa Road, one of the two main trails intersecting at Wassonville.
