At the time Wassonville was settled in the 1840s, travelers had to ford the English River in order to cross to the other side. In the early days, a ferry was built, probably some sort of large raft. During the annual floods, the ferry often sunk. A steel bridge was then built to help with the traffic on the Iowa City - Oskaloosa Road, one of the two main trails intersecting at Wassonville. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
